Project: Nicosia - Market

Images from market places offer a lot of ideas for lessons and projects. Look at the colours, the shapes, the fruit and vegetable, the arrangements the people and you will find a number of ideas for using these photos in your class for a number of purposes. Here are some suggestions:
Project: Nicosia - Market
Aim: to make intercultural observances about everyday life in Cyprus and you own own country/ to learn about fruit and vegetables and foreign dietary practice
Age: version 1 - primary school children / version 2 - secondary education and adults
Activity 1
Version 1& 2: Try to find out as much information about everyday life and eating habits in Cyprus from the photographs presented. Make a list of the fruit and vegetable presented and describe the place.
Activity 2
Version 1 & 2: compare the information you have found out with what you know about your own country, what do you eat, where do you shop? Are there similarities/ differences? Make a list.
Activity 3
Version 1 & 2: Read these typical Cypriot recipes and have look at the pictures of the market. Do you find any of the things needed on the photographs? You can find typical Cypriot recipes at:

Activity 4
Version 1: look at the texts your teacher gives you about Cypriot food. Do you know any of these dishes? From where? Discuss in the group and present before the class.
